The Clothing Closet exists to provide LGBTQ+ folks in need with free clothing and accessories in a safe, gender affirming, and welcoming environment. As we are able, we also try to provide expensive transition related items to trans and non-binary people who cannot otherwise afford or access these items.
Our volunteers can open the Closet for you to shop privately, or we can help you as much as you need. You are always welcome to bring friends!

The Clothing Closet is entirely sustained by community donations, and we are so grateful for our community’s generosity. Monetary donations go towards the purchase of binders, bras, underwear, and forms – items that are expensive and can be difficult to find and safely access. Donations of clothes and accessories are sorted and put out as soon as there is space.

The Clothing Closet was started in 2016 by two trans undergraduate students at MU who had identified a need on campus among LGBTQ students. The Closet was originally run out of their garage, and in 2017, they partnered with The Center Project to make their huge stock of clothing and accessories available to the wider LGBTQ community in mid-Missouri.
